Overview: Russia Engages the World, 1463–1825

This large-scale exhibition in two gallery spaces documented Russia’s movement from isolated entity to global empire and its relation to Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Rare works of literature, art, and ephemera from the NYPL’s vast collections all helped tell the story of the country’s evolution and expansion. Complementing the show were a series of lectures, films, a symposium, and companion volume. The exhibition received critical acclaim by The New York Times.
