PROJECT
Partnering with the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the NYPL installed this massive exhibition in two of the building’s largest gallery spaces on two floors. It showcased Western concepts of ideal societies based on religion, social experiments, and fiction, from classical antiquity through the present day. The exhibition included literary artifacts such as Thomas More's Utopia (1516), Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver's Travels (1726), and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 (1953). It also examined the early American colonial experience, 19th-century socialism, and the commune movement of the sixties. Ephemera representing the American, French, and Russian Revolutions were also on display.
